When you do a quick search on Google about how to help your baby sleep, one of the recommendations is to get a white noise machine. There are a lot out there and with Benji, we didn’t actually prepare much for this in our first pregnancy.
Well hello, Ewan the sheep! 🐑
We were kindly gifted by my husband’s cousin and his wife Ewan the sheep – a really cute and simple white noise machine. We used it for newborn days and for naps. I can definitely recommend it as it has a red light and various different sounds.
🛍️ You can get this brand new from Amazon or any other online or brick and mortar shop such as John Lewis.
♻️ For an alternative sustainable shopping option, browse on The Octopus Club or Facebook Marketplace.

As Benji grows older though, we have started using our phone as a white noise machine – it’s portable and we always have a phone with us. If you have an iPhone, you can set your phone to have background noise turned on.
To have this enabled, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings > Accessibility
- Toggle on Background sounds
- Select what sound you’d like to play
We often use “Rain” to help Benji sleep for his weekend daytime naps and he likes it. Psst, we also almost always end up having a nap with him!
Of course, the downside would be not having our phone to hand but perhaps it is a good excuse for us to unplug, read a book or take a nap.
If you have any recommendations on other white noise machines, let me know – I’d love to hear about it and how useful you found it. You can drop me an email here.
Thank you for reading this far.
